1 Quote. 1 Reflection. 1 Question.
“There are only three things you need to let go of judging, controlling, and being right. Release these three and you will have the whole mind and twinkly heart of a child.”
-From: Hugh Prather
The Stoics would say to be indifferent. People think being indifferent is weak, selfish, and insensitive. Actually, it shows confidence, humility, and kindness. We can practice being indifferent every day.
Being indifferent is donating money to the homeless guy, knowing he will use it for cigarettes.
Being indifferent is voting in an election, knowing your candidate isn’t going to win.
Being indifferent is going to the gym, regardless of whether it’s sunny, rainy, or snowy.
Being indifferent is providing great service to a shitty customer.
Being indifferent to the ups and downs of life will take practice. You will suck at it when you start out but, eventually, it will become second nature. Adopting this way of thinking will attract criticism and pushback but don't worry, because all worthy pursuits and practices come at a cost.
Who is someone you need to forgive this week so you can move on with your life?
